How to take Wegovy tablets

  • Take one tablet once a day on an empty stomach, after at least 8 hours without food.
  • Swallow it whole with a sip of water (up to 120 mL). Do not split, crush or chew it.
  • Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other medicines by mouth. Waiting less means less medicine is absorbed.
  • Treatment starts at 1.5 mg a day and usually goes up each month: 4 mg in month 2, 9 mg in month 3, then 25 mg from month 4.
  • Never take two tablets to get a higher dose.

If you miss a dose

Skip the missed dose and take your normal dose the next day. Do not take two tablets to make up for a missed one.

Storage

  • Keep tablets in the original blister pack to protect them from light and moisture.
  • No special temperature storage is needed.
  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children, and do not use after the expiry date.
  • Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer need.

When to seek urgent help

Stop taking the medicine and call 999 or go to A&E if you get:

  • Severe, persistent pain in your stomach area that may spread to your back, with or without being sick: this could be inflamed pancreas (acute pancreatitis).
  • Signs of a severe allergic reaction: breathing problems, wheezing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty swallowing, a fast heartbeat, or feeling faint.

Contact your doctor urgently, or call NHS 111, if you notice:

  • Sudden loss of vision or rapidly worsening eyesight.
  • Severe constipation with stomach pain, bloating or vomiting (possible bowel obstruction).
  • Pain in the upper right of your stomach, fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes (possible gallbladder problems).
  • Being sick or having diarrhoea that stops you keeping fluids down (risk of dehydration and kidney problems).

For anything else, message your clinical team from your account. Our messages are not monitored for emergencies.
